Portland has been on my foodie bucket list for many years (AKA my bucket list of places to travel to solely for the purpose of spending all of my time indulging in their cuisine).
So when the Bon Appétit Presents Feast Portland came around for 2018, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to check Portland out for myself as well as seeing what the festival was all about! Over 20,000 attendees, 120 local and visiting chefs, as well as wineries, breweries, distilleries, cider makers, artisans and more, enjoyed over 40 different delicious events during the four-day festival. But the fun didn’t stop there! I still had some time to make my way to several Portland area restaurants that I included on must-eat-here list that I created before heading into town.
To ensure my sweet tooth remained in a good mood, I enjoyed just about anything that would fall into the dessert category. From donuts at the popular Blue Star Donuts, ice cream at Ruby Jewel Scoops, and a late night dessert stop at The Pie Spot.
During the early hours of the day before I headed out to festival events and other local attractions, a stop at the St. Honoré Boulangerie for buttery croissants and a full brunch spread at Tasty and Sons couldn’t have been more perfect. If you are planning to stop by Tasty and Sons for weekend brunch my suggestion would be to get there as soon as they open. It’s the best way to ensure you’ll grab a table minus the hour-plus wait. And I can’t forget Screen Door which is serving up Southern-style favorites up North. I guess we are spoiled here in Houston because we can get this type of food all the time. Nonetheless, a great meal was had! And yes, get there early because the lines are kinda ridiculous.
And if that wasn’t enough, I had to stop by Grassa for some handmade and amazingly fresh pasta. The best meal of the trip had to be at Han Oak, a laid-back Korean spot with an awesome patio and a menu that would blow you away. It was only fitting that I ordered at least one thing from every section of the menu. My final evening would be spent at Andina sampling an array of small plates Peruvian style.
I had a great time in Portland and I’m really looking forward to visiting again. My list was way too long to scratch through every place I wanted to visit in one trip!
